Project summary
Ashan Thudugala is a wildlife conservationist and a primary investigator for “Save Fishing Cats Conservation Project”. He is also the co-founder of “Small Cat Advocacy and Research” and a member of US-based “Fishing Cat Conservation Alliance (FCCA). Besides fishing cat, Ashan works for the conservation of Rusty-spotted cat and Jungle cat in Sri Lanka.
In this project, Ashan works with local government authorities in advancement of local rescue, rehabilitation and release (RRR) centers in Sri Lanka. He helps in building enclosures, provides medical and other support to care the rescues animals and also help to release the small wild cats back into the wild. Additionally, Ashan and his team do monitoring and community-based conservation of small wild cats in Sri Lanka.


Goal of Project

  • To ensure the continual survival of Rusty-spotted and other small wild cats in the natural habitat in Sri Lanka
    Objectives of Project
  • To support and coordinate with the local rescue centers for effective rescue, rehabilitation and release of Rusty-spotted and other small wild cats
  • To monitor the Rusty-spotted and sympatric small cats using camera traps
  • To raise awareness about Rusty-spotted and other small cats by conducting series of community and school outreach programs
